Electrical AR Scenario – Conduit Bending Trainer

Client

Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Electrical Program)

Location

Saskatchewan, Canada

Completion

2024

Process & Tools

BlenderHoloLensDynamics 365 Guides
3D view of a rigged conduit model prepared for augmented reality training in an electrical course.

The Challenge

The electrical course needed accurate, animated 3D models of conduit bends that could be viewed as holograms on HoloLens. The models had to match real-world bending behavior, export cleanly from Blender to .glb/.gltf, and meet Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides’ performance and validation requirements.

The Digital Solution

I designed and rigged conduit models in Blender using armatures, deformation bones, and shape keys, then exported them as .glb/.gltf for HoloLens. Using Python scripts, gltfpack, and Babylon.js, I optimized meshes, reduced file sizes, and resolved issues like non-root skinned meshes and animation warnings so the models would load reliably inside Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides for AR training.
